This simply can't be true.  There are two simple rules I live by and this violates both:
1) The ACLU only attacks peace-loving Christians and has never done anything right or good in their history. 
2) Police are good.  So good, in fact, that we should just do whatever they want.  Police officers take the job so they can protect us only, and would never be power hungry or violate a person's freedom.  They are right, they promise.

Geezzzz... some people are going to take you srsly.

I read the article, and it reinforces advice that we should all follow: DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS BY POLICE AND DO NOT COOPERATE WITH THEM. When they'd like to 'take a look' in your car, tell them no. If they threaten to take you to jail, make your decision. But they are not your friends.

check out my cell phone? Not a chance. Only way they'll get it is if they arrest me.

The 4th Amendment doesn't apply here because you're not in your house, the cops didn't have to open a door or drawer, 'anyone' with a wireless line-tap gadget can see your stuff, and your carrier has given open permission to monitor their service.

You don't have a right to privacy, and the Constitution is (in the words of a great neo-con overlord) "just a god-d@mned piece of paper. "

Yet another argument for, if the police ask you to get out of your car, lock the door when you do so. But hang onto your cell - just don't give it to them unless they arrest you.

Michigan state cops have said they don't use these devices for 'routine stops', but only when they have a warrant, or 'consent'

Considering that consent is extracted with (at least implied) threat of arrest unless one gives gives consent for search... the advice not to cooperate stands.

Your personal information is your business, shakeing down citizens on the road way is a violation of basic right to privacy.....kinda like your wallet or your underwear (with you in them) if you dont mind the public rummaging round in your business, they say that on re-intering this country from a third world/areas deem'd troubled the TSA can and does sieze laptop computers, bluetooth,PDA's and cell phones, and you dont get them back.

In the end dont put information in any device you use, best way to look at it is anything put in them is as private as the side the town water tower or a truck stop toilet stall so if your into scrawling your mothers maden name, your birth date and town your born in and your shoe size polictcal bent, SSN or your bank account and roughting number, best keep it locked up on paper.

I heard this on the news radio. Sounds a little overstepping but it at least involves the warrant or consent doctrine. If this was a local child predator it might have some value.

PA schools want to start collecting PII on your kids and you.
how much longer the rest the states follow suit following the Federal $, $$ get withheld if you dont be a good littel lacky and spill yer guts to em, two that readily come to mind is the speed limit and drinking age.

Yet we expect LE to do their jobs...... Which are within legal boundries. Your state congress/assembly MAKE the laws that YOU elected into office. Why blame LE? The source is the voters that put the officials in power that made laws that you disagree with. LE would not do a thing without elected official blessing. Aint gonna happen.

Police Lie!  Some are on EGO trips and they lie like mad to get their way.  2 case in points.

1.  High school kid out on the ice in the knee deep river.  Police come up and start following him down river.  Kid asked if they were going to arrest him when he came ashore.  They said "NO".  If they had said yes he would have got off the ice and walked to the opposite shore.  As soon as he stepped on shore they arrested him, cuffed him, and took him to jail.

2.  My son was stopped on a traffic stop.  First thing he did was get his drivers license and concealed carry permit out, and rolled down his window.  When the officer arrived at the window, my son handed the documents to the officer and said, "Officer I am carrying".  The officer stepped back, took a defensive posture, and started yelling, "You did not tell me you were carrying".  My son was confused at first, then he realized this officer was escalating the situation.  Claiming my son had not informed the officer he was carrying.  My son realized it would be his word against the officers in court, and the officer would be believed, so he went along with the disarming, removal from the car, and pat down.  Then as the officer handed my son a ticket for speeding, which my son had not been doing, the officer said, "I'm doing you a favor and not charging you with street racing".  My son was not street racing, he was on his way to the University.  The cop lied then threatened him with another lie.

Face it folks, we are living in a police state right now.

When you are in your car and stopped by the police, remain polite and give them your license registration and proof of insuarance when asked. No you may not search my car. No you may not look in my trunk. When asked if I have something to hide, my answer is no officer I do not. I then ask what exactly they are looking for so I will be able to help them. That ussually ends the want to search right there. Do not keep a club or a knife or any other weapon in plain view or within arms reach unless you want to answer alot of questions ( they can then search your car for officer saftey reasons. If you want to carry a gun get the CCW permit. This keeps them honest. Not all LEOs are jack booted thugs, I am sure we have all ran into a few though.

The LEO must have probable cause to search you or your vehicle. Simply put don't give it to them. They can't search with out a warrant or consent. DOn't be rude be polite, always be polite. You can say no, even when they threaten to take you to jail etc. Always be polite, If they have a car camera or passerbys can hear what is going on you have alot more credibility if you are polite.

Let's not be too quick to condemn the MSP. We need to remember that 99.9% of the LE officers out there are the good guys.

JMO, but it seems like LEO's do occassionally enforce written law actually on the books, but most seem to play it by ear and make the 'law' up as they go, according to their whim, or whatever benefits them most in any given situation, and legislators do the same.
