375 H&H encore rifle question?
« on: December 28, 2003, 05:43:09 AM »
I am thinking about buying the 375 H&H and would like to here any comments about this caliber in an encore. Is it accurate, Does it kick more than a 3" mag 12 gauge? How would you rate the ecnore 375?
I am trying to decide weather I should buy the encore or buy a bolt action 375 in savage, winchester, or remington. I plan on reloading this cartrige and would like to hear from those that have them. Also, what kind of scope do you use, after market recoil pad (does it work), and what about having the barrel ported? Many thanks and happy new year!! :D

Doing the free recoil math the .375 H&H will easily surpass the recoil of a 12 ga, 3" mag slug gun.  The only limiting factors is how strong is your shoulder, can you shoot it without flinching.....and is your life insurance paid up  :-D !  Ok just kidding on the last part.

Using the 275 grain, kicks like 3 inch magnum slug gun.

and get a SYNTHETIC STOCK.  Wood will crack.

Take it from a guy on his second TC walnut stock.

12 gauge slug (2-3/4" only) cracked after about 20 rounds,  .50 cal 209x50 (100 grains, 2 pyrodex pellets only) cracked after about 30 or so.   I'm not about to try out a .375 until the synthetic arrives.

For what it's worth.

Sandy Flakeman,

Are you being paid by TC as a test bed for their walnut stocks?
<VBG> You would think that TC would revise the design and eliminate the the problem of cracking with the heavy calibers. .  But in a way I guess that's good for you, use the stock, scratch the stock, install big bore barrel, crack the stock, call TC for replacement, NEW STOCK

Gatta love it

You know if you are having problems with the walnut wood stocks cracking and do not want to go with the light synthetic - one option to consider would be one of the laminated stocks.  It should have a better chance of taking the recoil and will keep the weight up a bit in order to reduce felt recoil.  I know that Fox Ridge is offering these, so is EABrown, and a few others on Ebay.
