« on: April 25, 2011, 03:43:16 PM »
ok i have used up all my resources. so here i am,,     I have 400 dollars cash for anyone that finds me a good set of prints with dimensions and tolerances for the 2ND model 1862  58 cal gatling gun.  I know that they exist, i have had my hands on a set of them, but now the person that had them doesnt, he let someone borrow them and now no one knows where they are.  i know of at least 4 sets of prints out there. but i need one. or a copy.

  thank you.

Not sure if you've seen this, but it's a remarkable inner working:

Looks like Dr. Gatling to Agar's self contained cartridge idea to his.

Hmmm.  I can remember, decades ago, stopping in a city in Indianna (?) and seeing a huge gattling gun on the top of one of the buildings down town.  There was some historical connection with an organization there.  There have GOT to be prints around.

well i have found one that i can get my hands on and take apart to make a set of prints from, its not full cal. its only 50 cal. not 58 but we will see what we can do to make it bigger.  I hope to get it in two weeks are nationals. and I will try to get some pics up as soon as i can.  should be a learning project for all of us.  maybe when i sit down to build one i will just build enough parts to build a few as it is always easier to build 3 or 4 of the same parts then it is to come back in a few weeks and try to make the part over again.

Take LOTS of pix of each part.  You can use grid paper in the background too.

Years ago belonged to the NMLRA, and subscribed to their magazine, Muzzle Blasts.  I am pretty sure it was in one of those issues that I read about a working model of a Gatling Gun that the guy had made, steel cylinders and all.  I don't recall the caliber, but do recall he said it took awhile to reload all those cylinders so he could shoot again.  I have not a clue what issue it would be, but I'm sure it would be possible to find out.  I don't recall if there where any pictures of the innards or not.
I've got a set of the RG-G plans, I understand that one is better for shooting; the other is prettier, but supposedly not quite as reliable.  I'm gathering materials and .22LR ammo.  Hopefully one day.

Hey RRA, get in touch with Dixie Gun works, they have an amazing collection of collectable guns and cannons (original and repo)  info line : (731) 885 - 0700.  Make them the same offer (or less) and I'll bet they come up with something like what you need.  (They have two gatlings on the show room floor one is a .22lr replica, one appears original but is .45 cal, not .58 like you want)
keep em talkin' while I reload
