I got blisters on my fingers!!!!
« on: April 26, 2011, 11:33:27 AM »
From pressing .357 boolits out of a "cookie cutter" during pan lubing...about 15 pounds of them.  I became a "Casting Fool" this past weekend, moulding ~600 x 158 grain WC's, then pan lubing them, then cutting them out, then wiping the excess wax off, then sprinkling with Mica, then loading them into powdered and primed cases, and now I am ready to SHOOT THEM...

Yep,  thats why I try and break it up.  I will take a day, (or two or three) and try and cast everything I need for a while.

Later I lube and size and gas check as required.

Last I load.

If I try it all at once it becomes work and takes all the fun out of it...... :-X

Yep, once you get on a roll it's hard to stop. I usually cast a bunch then don't lube until just before I load 'em. No good reason, but I might want to try somrthing different, or a different lube with a different powder. I don't have a "standard" load that I can load up a few hundred, yet, although my Puma likes a 265 gr. Ranchdog over some Bluedot...

cast a bunch of 45 cal lee bullets the other night sized them in lee sizing die came out 450 dia .die is one  thousandths small should be 451 dia. they have been shooting great. after sizeing i put them in a sip lock bag then ad enough alox bullet lube to coat the bullets then i poor them all out on a sheet of wax paper to drie on a table.this is the  most easy way for me.

Now all you need is to get your order into white Label, can’t beat his prices.
I have been using his BAC special blend for about 4 or 5 years its worked pretty good on all my pistol and a couple rifle loads I worked up.

Can't beat the RCBS, it is the way to go. I built a series of shelves, raided Wally World and bout a bunch of tupper ware that I have raw cast and sized/lubed in. Whenever the "craze" hits me I cast. But not in that kind of quantity.
So what did you do with your spare time this weekend?

Sat out a dose of Pink Eye brought to me by my grandson.  Never had PE before, then my youngest son got it from the grandson, then I got it from my youngest son, ergo I got it from my grandson by proxy.  Danged annoying malady that sucked the momentum out of me over the 4th.

For anyone interested. Its really easy to add a piece of wood to a cartridge case to make a more hand fitting cake cutter. I will try to get the wife to take some pictures tonight a post them.

I made a couple of different cake cutters out of brass cases with one side of the case cut off by the case head, that gets inserted into a rubber stopper and glued. Makes a handy place to hold onto and the boolits come right out the open top.  Two are like that and one other one used a nail, spring, and simple cork from a wine bottle so its a spring loaded tool that when pressed on the cork releases the boolit. They all work pretty well.

kbstenberg, any ideas for a cutter for a .54 maxi? I made up a batch of lube for black powder revover wads and maxi bullets yesterday using crisco, olive oil, carnuba and parafin. The only thing I can find to make a cutter out of is a brass fitting that I drilled out, but the outside is going to take a lot of filing. Wish I had a lathe.

Land_owner,

I have only been casting for a few years but learned it from a buddy that has been doing it for decades.  I use Verals lbt blue soft in my rcbs lubesizer and it works great.  Use it for rifle and pistol bullets.  I ordered a lifetime supply of lube from Veral all at once and that made it more affordable.  I like to cast in mass quantities also ;D

Good luck,
