The same P.O.S. a few years back also gave, via CCVT or some such, a commencement speech for The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wa., a very left-leaning school.
Mumia's case has been very closely scrutenized...his guilt is beyond any doubt what-so-ever. Appeals have been heard by numerous courts, and independant investigations all have reached the same conclusion. Still, the leftists adore him; his is their "poster boy".
I really like the idea of "punch a teacher day"!!!!!

In case anyone is wondering, the evidence against this murderer is as solid as can be. Yet some argue that he should be released. It's one of those. Basically he's a more socially savvy Charles Manson.

But while on the topic of the teacher unions, it's important to note that this murderer actually had a relatively long-running commentary series on crime and punishment on national public radio, which. I remember hearing some of those broadcasts and the murderer was portrayed as an enigmatic figure that society had betrayed. Never mind that he was a militantly anti-white Black Panther who murdered a cop during a traffic stop.

So why wasn't the death penalty applied?  That would have stopped all this nonsense.

He was sentenced to death. But I guess we all know what that means. The killing was in around 1981. All the appeals ran out long ago.

I knew very little about this case, so I followed PMs link, and spent a bit of time reading up on the case.  It appears that the Third Circuit handed down a ruling yesterday sending the case back, again, to the lower court.  The SCOTUS has already affirmed the conviction once.  It will likely be asked to do so again.

To say the appeals are finished is simply incorrect.  To say the appeals should be finished might be more accurate.

Because of the fear of executing an innocent person, death penalty cases have numerous appeals and rights that normal inmates don't have.  The John Grisham book, The Innocent Man, talks about this some... The difference in options for co-defendants, one sentenced to death, one to prison.  Good book, particularly for those blow-hards who like to talk about "justice".

It does look like the evidence against him was pretty good, and I don't like to second guess a jury who has seen the evidence when all I've done is read a second hand account or two...  I suspect they got it right.

Some jurys need to be second guessed. A local case here several years ago a man, mel ignatow was charged with murder, criminal sexual abuse, can' t remember  what else in the death of an x gf.  Everybody in several states knew the pos was guilty but the jury, not guilty. Later when he moved  the person next in the house found a video of him raping, sodomizing, torturing, and sexually torturing, then murdering her as his current gf  watched, she also helped him get rid of the body. He was later found guilty in a civil suit. Some juries are just STUPID. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I think every profession has some bad apples, so I don't believe it is right to blame all teachers, or anyone else for the crud that they might be plagued with.  I sure as heck wouldn't advocate punching teachers in the face in any case.  I might chide them a bit about their union for backing a bad actor.

Happens everywhere. A local cop shot a 18 yr old for pulling a gun on him. Cop was no-billed and the only picture they could find? The subjects 8th grade "graduation" photo. I think his latest county jail mug shot would have been a little more accurate. And since when is 18 still a teenager?

California * sigh *was once a great state. The libtards took over and ruined it. the community I live in is about 80% conservative fortunately. Unfortunately the rest of the state seems to like these pantywetters that scream for criminals rights. What can you expect from a state that re elected one of it worse govenors who was a complete failure. Yes I am talking about Brown. He was a failure 20 years ago when he was in office and Swarzenegar was still a much better govenor. I am glad i only have a few years left in this state.

I really can't imagine why any one other than a criminal would kill a cop. The innocent don't do that.

Faulkner was the youngest of seven children in an Irish Catholic family from Southwest Philadelphia. Faulkner's father, who drove a trolley car, died of a heart attack when Faulker was five. Faulkner's mother went to work and relied on her older children to help raise him. Faulkner dropped out of high school, but earned his diploma and an associate's degree in criminal justice while serving in the United States Army.[2] In 1975, he left the Army, worked briefly as a corrections officer, and then joined the Philadelphia Police Department. Aspiring to be a city prosecutor, Faulkner enrolled in college to earn his bachelor's degree in criminal justice.[2] He married in 1979. On the evening of December 9, 1981, he was murdered while making an arrest.
On December 9, 1981, between three thirty and four o'clock in the morning, Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner made a traffic stop of a Volkswagen driven by William Cook, Abu-Jamal's brother, on Locust Street between 12th and 13th Streets, in Philadelphia. Officer Faulkner radioed for backup assistance, and both men exited their vehicles. A struggle ensued, and Officer Faulkner tried to secure Cook's hands behind his back. At that moment, Abu-Jamal, who was in a parking lot on the opposite side of the street, ran toward Officer Faulkner and Cook. As he approached, Abu-Jamal shot Officer Faulkner in the back. As Officer Faulkner fell to the ground, he was able to turn around, reach for his own firearm, and fire at Abu-Jamal, striking him in the chest. Abu-Jamal, now standing over Officer Faulkner, fired four shots at close range. One shot struck Officer Faulkner between the eyes and entered his brain.
Sounds like a straight up guy who would be a credit to our society.

Teachers thru their radical unions have lost respect among American citizens. When teachers burn and destroy property owned by taxpayers as they did in Wisconsin they lose all respect. Teachers have ranked themselves with the UAW, UMW etc. Teachers are no longer respected professional. They have become uncouth headbashers who will do anything to get their way. :-[

Yep- there is actually a course in that, but it's at the graduate level. There are 1st., 2nd, and 3rd degree uncouth headbashers. Gallager teaches the advanced course. It's now being taught in the military for use by special ops.

Not every teacher believes what the union promotes. Not every teacher is a liberal. Not every teacher is a useless leech on the state economy. Many of us are devout Christians. Some of us bust our butts to do our jobs. That being said, blanket statements to the contrary irk me beyond description. I don't want an "atta boy" from anyone, because my satisfaction comes from an internal work ethic that has nothing to do with anyone else.  Don't try to lump me in with a few others whose political values are very different than mine. (And by the way, you would have a tiger by the tail if you attempted to punch this teacher in the face.)

This particular union is supposed to represent its members, and making statements like this is extremely irresponsible. The union leaders are the ones to blame. They have no right to speak on such a controversial issue for everyone.

Jaybird as a voter opposed to the Democrats I don't pay dues to them. Where are all these teachers who disagree with their unions.  When this mass of teachers start burning their union cards at meetings I may change my mind. ::)

You DO pay "dues" to the government. And the person you voted for didn't get elected. I was making a point to 1marty that at any point in time it is possible for a leader to be elected that 49% of the "constituents" don't agree with. Therefore, the leadership does not always represent them in the way they would like to be represented.

You are entitled to your views on unions; you and I would probably agree on most points. Some of the things teachers unions are doing are outrageous. I believe you should do your job to the best of your ability, and if the terms of your employment become unsatisfactory, move on to bigger and better things. That is a personal decision for each individual, not for the union.

The bottom line is-yes it is disgraceful that this particular union took this stance; BUT-I would bet that there are several members that wholeheartedly disagree with the crap the leadership is spewing.

It seems members of the teachers unions keep posting their discontents.  Not all teachers belong to unions? Why do we never see these non-union teachers speak out againsit what we all see as system abuse. The Union members destroyed the state capital of Wi. for a cost of over 1 millon dollars to the taxpayers. Did any teachers speak out againsit these crimes?? :(
