going to get a 9mm for cc. picked up a kahr and a ruger lc9 and liked them both. can anybody tell me why i should get one vs. the other. thanks.

No experience with the Ruger. Either pistol would likely serve you well. If price is not a primary concern, the kahr is a proven performer. You might want to add the PF9 to the mix. It too is a proven design and inexpensive to boot.

I handled the Kahr at the shop when I got my SD9, but for sizability, I should have chose the Kahr.

The Kahr is next on my list for deep concealment.

The Kahr doesn't have all the 'lawyer lever' safety features that that LC9 has. For me that's a plus. I don't like guns with magazine disconnects. For some folks the safety, LCI and magazine disconnect are desirable. If it is for you, then I don't see anything wrong with the LC9. For me, I pick the Kahr. I agree with Savage that a cheaper alternative would be a Kel-Tec PF9. It's similar in size and a lot less expensive than the Kahr. It also lacks the lawyer features. I have one of those too and I like it.

The steel frames kahrs seem to be more reliable than the polymer ones. My experience with a PM9 wasn't good. For a defensive pistol I would prefer not to have a manual safety like the Ruger does. Ruger hasn't been on the market long enough for any problems to come to surface. LCP and SR9 both had big recalls.

For me, I just don't trust the designed-within-a-millimeter-of-functionality crop of mini guns that are now popular on the market. The smallest compact 9mm I would fully trust is a Glock26 or S&W M&P9c b/c they're just a chopped version of a reliable full sized platform. Anything lighter needed and I go with my LCR.

what kind of accuracy are you getting out of the pf-9. a friend of mine had one and really didn't like it.

I've never owned a Kahr, I have owned Rugers. While I would endorse their revolvers...........I sure wouldn't their automatics. Had a P85 (89?)9mm, that the link pin came out on and locked the slide up. Couldn't disassemble it.Finally did. Also had a MKII that the rear site would keep coming loose and falling out. Sold 'em both and never looked back. ( my main handguns now are a glock-23, a ruger gp100, and a kel-tec P32.

I have a Ruger LCP and love it. Accurate and a real good price. I didn't get a chance to shoot the new Ruger LC9 yet.

I have a kahr PM9 and it is a quality handgun. It shoots lights out at combat distances. I have about 250 rounds through it so far without a hitch. I would bet my life on it.

The PF9 is about what you would expect accuracy wise for a pistol of that size and caliber. It's no problem holding the "A" zone at 15yds rapid fire with the PF9. Mine has been totally reliable. The only downside is the sharp recoil felt with full power ammo. No surprises here, with the size/weight/caliber.

How much $$ are we talking? If you get up near $650 your in the territory of an H&K p2000sk in 9mm with an LEM trigger. You may have to go slightly used but it's still a great choice.

Which model Kahr did you 'pick up'? I have a Kahr CW40 that has been 100% for about 550 rounds now. It's the same (or virtually the same) size as the CW9 and the flush magazine holds 6 rounds. Don't know if you've considered or even want a .40 S&W since you posted that you were looking at 9mm, but if you would be open to a .40, then you can add that option to the mix. I only paid about $385 for the CW40.

I had a Kahr and did not care for it at all. I have not shot the Ruger but like the feel and look . I like Ruger in general though.

after carring 1911 in various length barrels for most of my life ! and after shooting a friends kahr several times and being totaly impressed with every aspect of the pistol ! i picked up a kahr pm9 for myself . so impressed i also later bought a kahr cw 45 as well, and it also impressed me ! i like carring it alot beter than my tricked out para p12 with alloy frame .
I have about 6 friends who have the Kahr pistols and all like them alot.
Kahr now makes a cm9 whis is a plane jane version of the pm9, but approx $200.00 less, but shootabilty is the same, but you only get 1 mag there about $30.00 from CDNN Investements

Gun Test Mag just tested the Kel-Tec V Ruger 9mm. Why didn't Kel-tec sue for patent issues?-some parts interchanged the design was so close but Ruger costs $100 more! Kel-Tec comes in more colors too! Several Forums have dumped on Kahr Warranty Service while all praise Kel-Tec. My choice-Kel-Tec PF9-been there, done it 42 yr LEO.

the Ruger lc 9 has a terrible trigger pull ide go with the Khar cm9 there about $460.00 in my area.

Only Ruger I have is the LCP. It's not apples to oranges, but is nice. I do have a Kahr PM9 and an MK9. Both are very nice, solid guns with good triggers. I shoot double action revos so the kahr triggers feel right at home. Sure carry easily as well.

I had one Kahr , a steel frame gun it was not reliable . I will not have another.

Well when I went for a smaller 9mm to carry, I handled the Kel-Tec, Kahr and Ruger LC9 and left with the Ruger LC9. The trigger gets much better with the more rounds fired it seem's, but I couldn't be happier with it. It's your choice.

Ive never held the Ruger. I own the Kahr CM9. The double action trigger is long and almost revolver like. I really like it. I am far more accurate with it that I was with my J frame. I find recoil to be less and practice cheaper as well. I really like my Kahr.

Why get a copy of the PF-9 when you can just get the PF-9? The thing about Kel Tecs is that they are original designs and Kel Tec has a service department unmatched by anyone. Ruger copied them, Taurus copied them, and so has a large number of others. That should tell you that Kel Tec sure is doing something right! Yes the PF-9 has a kick but, as Savage said, you got to expect that as small and light as it is. However it has never ever bothered me ever. When I chose mine I decided I wanted a gun that is reliable, acurate, of a lethal caliber, easy enough to conceal and light enough that I'd have no reason not to carry it. The PF-9 is perfect in every one of those catagories. As to not being acurate? Is being able to consistantly hit a pie plate at 40 yards not acurate enough for ya in a short barreled hand gun?

I own and have shot both for many years. I have developed a preferenec for the Kahr...But before you plunk down your money, heft a compact Springfield XD-9 and see what you think. The Xd is the gun that I shoot and carry the most....just a thought.
