Of all the formulas I have always liked the Taylor factor in handguns because it is similar to what the old buffalo guns were. However, These days bullets are so good that a good bullet constructed for penetration and tissue damage has always worked well for me. I personally like the LBT bullets in cast and the 200 gr or better in jacketed in the 41 mag for hogs and deer. With this you should not have any problems with hogs or deer as long as placement is good and you use regular power loads.
I hope this helps you.

I use a hot-loaded 10mm longslide.... 200gr Hornady XTP at 1300fps.  Haven't had one walk away from one of those, yet.

Since there are no degrees of deadness how can there be degrees of killing power?

Very well put!!

The larger the wound track, the quicker the kill, normally.  A lot of speculation on "shock" with high speed bullets, but if they don't reach vitals, you get a wounded animal that will suffer and may get away to die later, or live and suffer.  If I'm not sure a bullet I'm using will pass through, I don't pull the trigger and wait for a side shot in the boiler room that will.  If I don't get that shot, I don't shoot.  That's hunting in my book.  The Taylor formula may not be perfect, but is a lot more relevent than the amount of "foot pounds" many use, IMHO.  DP
