WilliamLayton Bought Supper!
« on: April 27, 2011, 07:39:48 PM »
I was in Houston a couple of days ago, and called Ole William. William beat feet to my location, and we sat down and spent a couple hours laughin and talkin, and enjoyed a good meal together. I got a chance to check out his gun belts and holsters, and he got a look at my Model 60 Smith, he'd been want to see, and check out my action jobs. It was a good evening and a first time face to face after almost 7 years of cussin and discussin on this site. Thanks, William and supper's on me next time.

I would be proud to meet the both of you.

Seven years here also and I have yet to run into another GBO member, been entertaining the notion of getting a hat for the gun shows and the like for the last 3 yrs.

A few people i would like to meet. I did meet Mr. & Mrs. spikehorn. Great people to talk to.
I did meet another one that was thrown off GBO for not shipping an item he sold. He runs a youth center 2 blocks from me. Being the type of person i am i stopped and ask him what kind of crap was he trying to pull. As can be expected he denied it all.

Good for you guys!!  I really enjoy meeting GBO members when possible!  I did a hunt with S.B. and his son Six_gunz.  Also a hunt with Mikey and Mike103.  Grizz66 is my shoot'n buddy.

Heading to Pheonix this weekend for a meeting....in and out so I won't be able to meet with anyone...I hate that.
If you like, please enjoy some of my hunt pics at:

Yep bobg is a great guy and pointed us to wonder restaurant in the town he lives in. I also met MACHINIST for a FTF gun swap, great guy to deal with and started me on my 45-70 addiction. Have talked to few on the phone as well, all great people.

I've been on this site so long, it's like having friends you just never see. You get to know them, and their personalities. William was just as I thought he would be, and it was a good visit. It would have been a lot longer than it was, but he got his directions wrong, and took a little longer, still it was worth the wait.

It was a fun meet and enlightening also.
I enjoy getting to know--face to face--those who reside in this town.
Dee was a little different than I expected.
I knew he would be a big ol boy but was heavier (not fat)than expected. His voice, on the phone, when he called was just spot on too my imagination--that twangy Texas drawl.
Dee is a good guy--a loose cannon at times--but I enjoy his opinions and commentary.
I have had the pleasure--during my wanderings--of meeting several folks, both from this forum and another, NEVER been disappointed.
I treat these meetings as first dates. I like them to be in public so that folks don't think I am tryingto intrude on their privacy. It has always worked out well, doing it this way.
Dee's pistol was spot on nice and the trigger work is amazing,
Thanks for the call and visit Dee---really hope we can do it again.
Blessings
Bill

I did have the opportunity to meet briefly with one of the members from the forum when I worked the NRA annual meetings last year in Charlotte.  Unfortunately our schedules did not permit us to visit for very long and to be honest I don't recall who it was now (Yep, I'm getting old) but it was enjoyable.

I've been a member here a while myself and many here are a little like extended family.   Just like family we don't always see things eye to eye but for the most part we don't hold grudges and respect one another.  Overall, one of the best groups of folks on any forum out there.

I joined up here in 00 when the old shade tree varmint hunting forum closed down. Haven't seen a soul in person yet.

With Dee and W. Layton to me it goes to show how it is easy to disassociate the human element when communicating on these boards. We tend to forget there are women and children frequenting these boards as well. I think both of these fellows can admit to disassociating a decent person on the other side of the keyboard and saying a bit more than would have been said if they had met every day in a diner for coffee over the years.

What me being called out for my frequent soap box appearences ???
Well,  :-[, I stand convicted.
Don't wear your feelings on the shirt sleeve and just read and post.
Dee and I have fought like a couple of schoolyard brats from time to time. far as I can tell it has always been a draw---neither EVER getting the othe to admit defeat.
He is a good guy.
Blessings

Disassociate the human element? Saying a bit more than would have been said if they had met every day. Not hardly. William and I may not always agree, but I will say the same thing if everyone in the room is on the other side. I suspect William will too.

Nope! I'm this way all the time. Ain't a cordial bone in my body. But I certainly appreciate your being cordial, and critical, on a thread that was meant for nothing more than how much I enjoyed meeting a fellow GBO member.
You have tried to turn it into a psychological profile. Would you have done that if you had been sitting at the table with William and I? I doubt it, but if you had, I would have thrown you out of the conversation, and the gathering. ;)

Dee, well if my reckoning is accurate. On more than one occasion you have been in jeopardy of being booted due to name calling, threats of physical altercations, personal attacks, cursing and things of that nature. I was trying to show that two gents can sit down and have a good time face to face. Once again you wish to turn something into a confrontation when there was nothing there. We have never had a bad word, nor have I with anyone on this forum. Most folks would not have taken offense to what I wrote and agreed that when you get to know someone in person it's a whole lot different.

I don't recall every being in jeopardy, but. Perhaps you need to consult Graybeard himself on the matter since you seem so condescendingly sure. I will admit that on a few occasions thought about leaving on my on due to contentious folks like yourself whom make things up, such as what you just said.
Someone always has to ruin a positive thread, and this one is done for me. Thanks bug, I think I will "bug out". It's was good while it lasted. Hope you trip over a can of insect spray.

William and the rest. I'll see you guys later, and I enjoyed conversation.
