JP Break on 300 WIn Mag
« on: April 28, 2011, 02:40:24 AM »
Anybody have any experience with an Encore barrel with a JP Howitzer break? Thinking about having one put on a 26" 300 Win Mag barrel. I know it is going to be loud but looking for other pros and cons.

Hi JW
I have had a number of brake barrels and I found them all to loud even in the 223, never had the brand you are asking about they were factory or mag-n port. I could not tell that much difference in recoil ,may have been the loud noise.
If you wont to reduce the recoil on that 300 win mag go on the Hodgdon site and look at their reduced loads for that cal. using H 4895 They list a 125-130-135 grn bullet and 2621 fps 2546 fps and 2495 fps The H 4895 powder is very slow burning and works great for all the reduced loads they have listed. Note these reduced loads are for H 4895 not IMR 4895
I use their reduced load in the 7mm Remington mag and it is a real pleasure to shoot and not a lot of noise and mild recoil.
I also use their reduced load for the 7-30 waters in a hand gun and it is a pleasure to shoot. If you wont something to just plink or maybe even deer hunt then look at their trail Boss powder. I use their suggested load in a 444 mag contender pistol with a 240 grn bullet and it is a pleasure to shoot and very little muzzle blast and mild recoil.

Just be prepared for some, um... "negative feedback" from people next to you on the firing line at the range...

Not really interested in reduced loads. Was just interested to know if anyone on here had actually shot a rifle so equipped.  J.P. Enterprises and E Arthur Brown claim up to 100% recoil reduction.

I have heard they are very effective, but 100%?
