Prince,
I don't know if I can help.  I do know I had a friend who cured this issue by bending the lever? If you pose this question over on 24hourcampfire@ Savage Forum, he will offer details....RickBan.  Sorry I can't give you  something more.

Savage T thanks for the help I will try the link.
The noise that the 99 makes is annoying because it becomes impossible to still hunt effectively with the little clunk clunk as I walk.
 Best of luck. POW

POW,
Just a follow-up on the previous message.  Correction to the earlier posting.....I chatted with "Lightfoot", the contact and he confirms that you need to use a rubber mallet together with a block of wood (2X6) to bend the lever to tighten  it up. It is as he describes a tedious task of bending and fitting. I would send him a PM over @ 24 HourCampfire.com-Savage Forum.

Savage T am I to understand that there is no actual allowance for tension of the lever? If I must I will take out the old mallet and 2X6 and wack at it but seems odd to use this approach. That thing is noisy believe me!  I just want it stopped. Best of luck. POW

POW,
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it..........Would not hurt to try talking to a local gunsmith to see if he agrees????  Have you been able to contact Lightfoot?  I have his e-mail if you want it.
