4570 Talo carbine sight problem

I got to handle one of these little rifles at my favorite drooling ground.  Well, I hate to admit it, but I was disappointed.  This particular rifle had badly misaligned sights.  The front and rear sight bases were abviously not lined up properly on the barrel.  This was easily visible.  I am used to seeing Rossi single shots with this problem, but not Handis.  Hopefully it is not trend with Handi rifles.  The action was also extremely stiff and difficult to open.  Several Handis had the same problem.  At least this is less of a concern because use should loosen it up.

Tight to open wouldnt bother me, but I would want to know if it was so because of forearm pressure. If they wouldnt drop the forearm for me to check, I would at least want a no questions asked return policy. Unfired return would be OK for me to do the check-up at home for the critical issues. If they wont allow that, DO NOT buy from them.
The sights mounted crooked are just plain wrong. Point it out is about all you can do, but I cant live with that always looking back at me when I look down the barrel.
Now if you intend to put a scope on it anyway, use the sight issue as bargaining stock if all else is OK, but know that if/when you go to sell it the shoe will be on your foot.

The rear sight on that rifle was drifted waaayy to the right.  For me that is a sure sign that the rifles sights are not mounted correctly.  Upon further inspection I was correct.  But that is the problem, when it was test fired at the factory, someone had to crank the rear sight all the way over just to shoot the thing.  Why wasn't it caught then?  Or is it considered "within specs" if you can get it to hit a target no matter how far you adjust the sights?  Or is the test fire just to see if it goes bang?  Either one of these options worries me.

I'm pretty sure they only test fire for function, I wouldn't be concerned about it, the tight forend is an easy fix if it doesn't shoot well.  ;)

That was what my post was about - a new rifle with a forearm so tight that I could actually see it flex and deform when I opened the action.  Since the shotgun barrel went on with no such problem, it seems like the stud on the new rifles is set back a couple of hundredths, enough to make the forearm real tight.  Seems like a factory problem to me!

When I was looking at the Handi rifles on the shelf I did not look too closely into the stiff opening issue.  Except that all of the wood stocked Handi's I messed with had the same issue.  I did not take a close look at any of the synthetic Handis to see their fit.

No offense to the Handi crew here (I am a faithful Handi owner since 1993), but the CVA scout on the shelf next to the Handis seemed much better put together and much smoother in operation.

Do not judge all by just one.I have the Talo Trapper 45/70 and the sights on it are perfect.The action is a bit tight at first but that is to be expected.Mine is the absolute BEST Handi I have had yet.

Oh, Im not.  My most recent purchase of a new handi was a synthetic 45-70, it's awesome.
