One of my local Walmarts that until recently wasn't stocking firearms, does now.  They had a Marlin 30-30 which was very tempting at ~$350.  ;D

To sell guns or not is a decision made by the manager of your local store. He/ She may B.S. you if confronted but it is their decision to make at a store level.

it is not a store decision it was corporation decision based on the number of stores in a certian area as why have 3 stores in a town to sell guns just have one they was thinking of the time to fill out paperwork and the wasted man hours showing and standing and logging guns in and out  but it seemed to backfire as the number of gun sales dropped so now they seem to be bringing back guns to some stores if you think a mangers is just gonna say i dont want to sell guns at my store and a big company like wallyworld say ok you must be crazy
