Question on an old Hornet
« on: April 30, 2011, 05:11:22 PM »
I was recently reunited with my first rifle  :), a Topper 158 hornet. SN is AN204391 and was told it's probably made in 1975.

The stock and forend are a little beat up. I was looking at the Choate Monte Carlo/forend and was wondering if this would fit considering the age of the Hornet. Will this work?

Second, the grouping are great at first but after the 10th round I'm at 4" groupings.  I usually shoot around 9 to rounds every 15 minutes. My eyes aren't good so some of this is me but I notice after letting it cool 30 minutes my grouping gets better. Is this barrel fried or is this normal? If it's the barrel then any options you can recommend? Thanks in advance.

WELCOME!!

The Choate Stocks should be fine.

Shots moving like that, are generally from forend problems. Also possibly a good cleaning is in order... Get the new stocks on, go shoot it and lets see what happens...

Take a look thru the FAQ's as well. There is truly a wealth of information Tim has compiled there. The best part is its search-able!! SO, you can look for whats directly pertinent to you at that time...
