need a part
« on: May 01, 2011, 04:09:48 AM »
I need some advice on where to get a part.  I discovered my new to me 629-2 is missing a part.  For lack of a better name I will call it a nut.  Under the rear sight there is a groove cut to accept a thin piece of metal that is drilled and tapped to receive the height adjustment screw of the sight. I checked Brownell's, Midway, and  the S&W site.  Could someone give me a suggestion where I might buy this part and maybe the correct name for it.

On another note.  At some time in the future I  may want to install a Leupold FX-11 2x scope.  I have never scoped a Smith before so could I have some suggestions about a base and rings please.  Thanks, GG

Hello
The rear sight elevator nut as it is called is what you are missing. S&W factory has that part and will send it to  you free of charge all you have to do is call them and tell them you lost it. Their Toll Free number is 1-800-331-0852 (USA) Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time . Have on hand your guns serial number and dash number series to help the service guys look up the sight part you need. Regards, Hammerdown

Just a heads up on Smith and Wesson customer service, it was great.  I called the parts guy who talked me through a repair, listed parts needed, checked to see that they were in inventory and lastly posted all the parts to me for free.  A very good experience that will keep me coming back the next time I need anything.  Gary

Hello Gary
Per our PM I am Glad it all worked out for you. For reasons like these, This is Exactly why my collection consists of S&W Products. They simply can't be beat on service nor long tern owner satisfaction. They are the Only handgun's I buy or put my hard earned money in, why buy anything else with S&W making these great guns, and Backing their products with Free parts to owners of them ? Regards, Hammerdown
