Just picked up my new Benelli Nova today :grin: and want to set it up for turkeys. What chokes and loads (store bought) have worked for you?
I would also like to add a holo or red dot. Any suggestions?

I've shot turkeys with full chokes but I've also used modified. I would stick with a full or extra full. I like using 3" magnum no. 4s. My shotgun won't take the 3.5's. There's a school of thought that you should use small shot and aim at the head but I like to increase my odds and aim at the base of the neck with heavier shot. That's my theory anyway.

Congrat's on the Nova. I won one back in March at a NWTF banquet and love it. Just took it waterfowl hunting this weekend. Great shooting and feeling gun. I havn't set my up for turkey yet but plan to before the season starts. I'm going to try the new Primos "Jelly Head" choke which is rated for hevi-shot. Hi try the hevi shot 6's with a stardot choke .668 or try a custom choke and use the Win High vel. 5 or 6 shot they pattern great out of my dads Super Black Eagle 3 1/2 hope this has help VM

You'll have to get some different chokes for your gun and test them out - for example - I prefer a full choke oposed to an extra full for my 835-Mossberg but that doesn'y mean that's the best combonatin for you. You'll have to put a day aside ( or 2) too figure out what works best for your gun - even if a buddy has the same model as you I suggest you still test: improved cylinder / modified /Full / and exta full. - Good luck [/b]

I bought a nova when they first came out. I think you will really enjoy it. My only complaint is that the stock rattles. I have bought several different turkey chokes for mine and I like this one the best.

I used hevishot last year in a number 5 but I am going a little bigger this year and moving to the 4. The hevishot patterned very well out of this choke.

I own a Mossberg 500. The best thing i could find to pattern in my gun was Remington 3 in. Duplexs. They contain both 4&6 size shot. With an extended extra full turkey choke. It's worked good for the past 2 years so I felt no need to spend the extra cash on the hevi shot.

I think the hevishot is worth the money personally (really, how many times to do you shoot during a season?). I shoot an 870 "turkey gun" with a 24" barrel and a turkey choke. The hevi-shot 5s and 4s pattern significantly better than the lead equivalent in 31/2" shells at 45+ yards. Inside 45 yards the pattern seems to be barely tighter with the hevishot, but it's not significant. I used to swear by the 3" duplex 4/6 loads until I moved to a new gun with a 31/2" chamber.
