Remington 597 in 22 Mag
« on: May 02, 2011, 09:30:38 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with this rifle.  I have a friend who has an itch for a .22 Mag autoloader and this rifle seems to be the best value of the few remaining models out there..thanks in advance..

i have never handled, nor shot a Remington 597 in .22LR or .22WMR.  i have heard they are decent auto loaders with the newer steel magazines.  the earlier models had feed problems with the plastic magazines.  personally, i would prefer a .22WMR in a bolt or lever action...but to each their own.

I was driveing through Coopersville Mi. the other day, and a gunshop there had a used one, in nice shape there, that was scoped.  The shops name was Pallladium Gunshop, 616-997-9555.  I have nothing to do with that gun or shop, just telling you about it.

  I REALLY like mine!

Surf-shopping last night, looks like you can get a 597 in 22 LR for $ 170-200, but a 22Mag is $400-450.
Does that sound right?
What causes that? difference in sales volume?

I also have a 597M.  It's the laminated stock version.  Mine is extremely accurate and has proven ultra reliable regardless of ammo.  Be sure and use the metal mags and not the plastic ones that were initially sold with the rifles.
