.223 55g soft points, good coyote round?

I was wondering if a 55g soft point would work well for coyotes? What kind of damage might it do to one? Just curious, do soft point .223s ricochet often? Thanks

Rusty any 223 load is ok for coyotes. I load 52gr jhp to 60 grn jhp and sp in between. I don't know about fmj which would probably richochet, other should blow up on impact.

rusty, in my experiance the soft points are more likely to "over penetrate" than hollow points. i've began using sierra 55gr .224 exclusively both in the HPBT and the SP and i've found both provide excellent accuracy.But the SP has exited all the dogs i've shot, leaving large exit wounds, on the other hand the HPBT hits as hard but even at 15ft produced no exit wound. just to qualify I'm shooting a remington ADL M700 22-250 at 3800 fps. regardless of the bullet you use placement is everything.

I use 60 gr. Spire point because I have a lot of them and they were free. They do a good job but 60 yards in leave about a 2 inch exit. Pretty good compared to the 25/06 I was using though. I will load 52 ad 55 grain TNT here soon. Friends have very good luck with them . Good luck and keep the yotes jumpin. :-D
