Bolt mounted Peeps for the Rossi 92?
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:04:22 AM »
I've recently dusted off a Rossi 92 in .45 Colt that had been peacefully resting in my safe.  I've surprised myself, by falling in love with the darn thing.  reliable?  i've been feeding those plastic training bullets through it with no feeding hassles.  That's real similar to feeding empty brass..

Anyways, to come to point I'm thinking that it does need a peep sight.  I've been hearing alot about the bolt mounted peeps that replace the goofy little safety.  I just wanted to hear how perform, and how durable they've been for ya'?  I've just got a natural....uptight instinct against mounting a peep sight on moving parts, but...I keep having to remind myself that it's a woods gun, not a benchrest or target rifle.  They don't appear to be lacking in durability- especially when you consider the fact that they're pretty small, and therefore alot harder to accidentally smack into a rock, tree, bow of a canoe, door of a truck, etc.

So, what have y'alls experiences been?

I sure appreciate your thoughts on the matter!

Here's a thread I posted, in the Skinner Sights Section here, with pics/etc of the Skinner LoPro I installed into a safety replacement plug I handmade for all my Rossi M92's, including one in .45 Colt.

Installation was painless, as was sighting-in - it zeroed, using the issue front sight blade, within 5 shots.

I appreciate your response there.  I imagine I'll end up getting one.  There doesn't seem to be much discussion of them out there, but everything I've found seems to be positive.  It's definitely worth a try!

Thanks!

I bought a 357 with a bolt mounted peep and have a 44 mag with a Williams receiver mounted peep.  Both are very usable with the Skinner bolt mounted one being less hanging off the rifle.  No problems with bending it or catching it on things.  DP
