hermhunt: the 250 gn rnfp is the standard bullet for the 45 Colt cartridge and although there is not a lot of 'flat' (metplat) up front, the cartridge with that bullet has been taking game since it was developed. Elmer Keith felt it needed more 'flat' up front, so he designed his famous semi-wadcutter for the cartridge, the Lyman # 454424 at 255 gns.
I prefer the broader 'flat' of the large metplat on the Keith designed swc and its sharp shoulder, but that is not to say that the rn-fp slug won't work well enough for you. You will know this if you use the cartridge/slug on larger game like Whitetail, and find your slugs glancing off larger bone structures and failing to get deep into the heart/lung area for a quick demise or failing to penetrate sufficiently to break large bone structures, or if your animal runs off and you cannot locate it, and at that point you may begin to wish that you had used a swc slug with a larger metplat.
