Custom Ruger 1-A 22 Hornet
« on: May 07, 2011, 02:39:56 AM »
I just got pics of my 1-A Hornet and I will pick it up next week.  Luxus Arms in Mt. Orab, Ohio did all the work.  Turkish Walnut, hand checkering, color case hardening on the receiver and the lever.  I am thinking a 4x Leupold in Warne quick detach rings.   What do you think?

I think you are going to need to dress nicer to shoot that gun.
That is one sweet rifle.
A fixed 4 would look good on that.
Didn't know Warne made quick detach with a Ruger claw.

Come to think of it, I do have a NECG peep for a Ruger.  I might go that direction and just keep it that simple.

What a wonderfull looking rifle. I too believe a peep would be fine as well as a old steel tube Weaver or such

I really like that wood.  ;) I'm a sucker for beautiful wood.

eskimo, I have observed that you hunt almost excusively with single shot rifles. You used to use contenders and then encores, now this #1. Are you giving up the break action rifles in favor of the falling block rifles?

Not at all.  I still have about 10 encores and 3 contender carbines along with about 15 H&R's.  I really like the tc's for the ability to buy a barrel and play with a caliber and get rid of it if I dont like it.  I am a lefty and the single shot makes sense for me.  I grew up on right handed bolts and I cant shoot a left hand bolt.  Here is a pic of a contender carbine in 6MMJDJ, one of my encores in 25-35 with an extra SSK 9.3x74r barrel,  and a very nice encore set that hasn't made it to a rifle yet.  I have a lot of old cartridge chamberings like 25-20 250 savage, 222 Rem, 32-20, 38-55, etc... I dont have any that just sit in the safe and this one will be no exception.  I just wish I had more time to ding em up in the field....

Eskimo,
Where do you get your contender & encore fancy grain stocks?

That contender stock is a Bullberry and I also have a couple of encore Bullberry stocks.  The Encores in that pic are from Luxus in Mt Orab, Ohio.  They no longer make the Encore stock but I have several extras that I bought from them in a pkg deal.  Email me (csnfitzATyahooDOTcom) and I will send you some pictures.
