I had never seen this CW photograph before, so I thought I'd post it.

"Havoc of Artillery Shell
This photograph by Mathew Brady shows the effect of a 32-pound shell from the 2nd Massachussets Heavy Artillery fired at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Brady, the New York-born son of Irish immigrants, was the most prolific photographic documenter of the Civil War. He and his assistants -- including, at one point, Alexander Gardner -- made over 10,000 photographic plates of the war."

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

There were a number of CW photographers - most much less famous.  Would be worth building a list.

In looking at the photo I am wondering if the civilian is Brady.  It reminds me of him.

      I think you are right, Artilleryman.  This is my favorite photo of Mr. Brady in one of the images his studio produced.

It could well be Brady.

The martial music and the clarity of the images are great on the video, I just wish that they had put together about ten minutes worth of artillery photos.
