PHOENIX – Arizona lawmakers want more fence along the border with Mexico — whether the federal government thinks it's necessary or not.

They've got a plan that could get a project started using online donations and prison labor. If they get enough money, all they would have to do is get cooperation from landowners and construction could begin as soon as this year.

Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed a bill that sets the state on a course that begins with launching a website to raise money for the work, said state Sen. Steve Smith, the bill's sponsor.

"We're going to build this site as fast as we can, and promote it, and market the heck out of it," said Smith, a first-term Republican senator from Maricopa.

Sounds like a worth while endeavor I wonder where their web site is.
Of course if we would quit giving all that money to places like Pakistan we could build that fence PDQ

Seems to me that our national border would be just that, regardless of who held the deed to the actual property up to it.
Kind of like the street in front of my house my abstract and deed show I own to the center of the road way yet it is a public right of way.
But I have noticed that some states have some strange property access laws.
Putting up a fence should only enhance the property , but I'm betting that property owners along the border are only seeing dollar signs.

That would surprise me. I think the land owners will welcome this and be more than happy to cooperate. After all they are at the front line and some have been killed. I am just concerned that this is another "feel good" effort that will not really solve a thing.

I've always thought of the Escort as being one of the best cars ever made. Very durable, reliable and economical given reports by friends and acquaintances who own them. And lots of room in the wagon configuration for hauling stuff, considering its a small car. Still see lots of them on the road. I have rented them during winter in the snowy north and they handled very well.

The new Focus that I believe replaces it is really nice. I've rented them and like it a lot. Good handling, comfortable, good design. Haven't tried the wagon, but I have looked at them and they are nice too.

If millions of Americans donated $20 for the fence, and they built a big section, maybe the Feds would get the message. If say 20 million conservatives donated $20, that is $400 million. Surely that could get a lot of fence installed, especially in the worse areas.

I would be for it if I thought it would do any good but I do not think it will, there will always be other ways in, just a waste of money and resources. Trying to ban illegals is like trying to ban guns, they are just too engrained into our society and there are to many of them. Powderman, you are still saying that you are not willing to sacrifice for your pet project?

guzzi. I could send a few bucks but I've gotten used to eating every day. With our income cut in 1/2 there is never any xtra. I'd rather see a wall built but a fence would be a start. I hope they electrify it. POWDERMAN.

If the United States of America wanted to secure it's borders you would not need a fence, or wall, or anything else.

It's a simple as that. We all know it, if you don't know it, think about it for a minute, you will realize it.

There are reasons the borders are open, and it has nothing to do with not having the "power" to keep people out.
Until such time as our government decides to secure the borders, anything we do is a waste of money and just for show.

We have lost our sovereignty, and that is a direct violation of all of our rights, and is an embarrassment to any clear thinking American.

Eisenhower used busses and boats, rounded up 2,000,000 illegals in the 1950's and sent them 200 miles inside Mexico. Left them. Problem solved for a few years.

DIXIE DUDE. No reason it couldn't be done again. For those of you that say it wouldn't work, I say, start it with one busload, and repeat as necessary. I think captured illegal aliens should supply 100% of labor used to build the fence. After all they came here to work. Oh, I mean work for free before being deported.

Illegal immigration is not going to be reduced as long as it is perceived (real or not) that illegals are a benefit as cheap employees. With coorperate and large family farms, construction, factories, etc. hiring these people and putting pressure on politicians and law enforcement to look the other way they are not going to go away. What is ironic is all the screaming from conservatives about the illegal immigration problem but republican employers (since more tend to be republicans and conservatives) are probably the worst offenders.

I like the fence idea but they lost me with the asking for donations to build it part. I will not donate one red cent to any government local state or federal. I am already coerced into making weekly "donations" to father government. They want to build a fence? Take my donation out of my weekly mandatory tithe to lord government.

Maybe they can get Donald Trump to help build it. I like what one Republican cantidate said. He wants high walls with wide gates. He suggested we have all illegals register with immigration, have them pass a health and background check for criminal record from their country of origin, then give them a green card to work here. If they can't find a job, are criminals, or unhealthy, then they are rounded up sent home. This would get a handle on things. Also, no anchor babies for anyone anymore.
