transfer bar question

got a 270 handi in trade and the top part of the transfer bar came off and was rattling around in the receiver is this common or do i need a new bar put in it i dont have a clue how to take apart

is it possible to just peen that back on there or do i need a new one

I just tried to order tranfer bas from h&r they told me it was a restricted part

Jason,

I just bought a transfer bar (lifter/striker) from Numrich.  I don't remember the part # and their website is confusing at best when searching for parts.  I think I just typed "lifter striker" in the search field.  It is listed as a replacement part and is supposed to be new and improved over the original.  Also, I believe Brownells has these listed on the website but I think they were out of stock when I look a few weeks ago.

Might wanta consider other spare parts, specially since you're tearing it down anyway and might wants to a trigger job, spare firing pin, lifter spring, firing pin and spring, hammer(and spring) and trigger are all good candidates for spare parts.  ;)

Well I took it apart and peened it back together I had a hard time holding parts in there to put pins back in so I had some wood dowels same size as pins so I cut small pieces of the and held them in there and then drove pin through and that pushed the dowels out as the pin went through took it out and shot it and everything is working fine I still ordered two new bars to have on hand
