subdjoe, that puts the question into an even clearer perspective, and makes perfect sense. I follow the 39/40 windage, because, as Double D said, it helps relieve excessive pressure. Like the man said, under Battlefield conditions, there wasn't sufficient time to measure each cannon ball as to whether it was a perfect sphere, and each grain of powder was not measured, only a specific amount necessary for propelling the ball in the proper direction of the target! Not to mention, there wasn't time to clean and dry the barrel after each shot, so, yes, windage is necessary to achieve optimum efficiency...am I being redundant, redundant, redundant?
