Yes they work. I don’t think a youngster with good eyes would think they’re any better than regular irons but ole farts can benefit using them. I tried them a year or two ago and found I could get on target fast compared to iron sights and putting rounds on a moving target was easier. I still can miss a moving target pretty easily but I rarely get a real bad flyer like I would with irons – you can say my misses are less embarrassing. I also went with a green fiber optic front sight and that combo really works for me.
I’ve always shot with both eyes open, which helps with the peeps & red dots. I really didn’t like the 7/32” peep, as it just didn’t feel right and acquiring a “perfect” sight picture took longer for me. I like the 9/32” much better and maybe a 3/8” would be the ticket if anyone would make that size.
These peep sights should help your shooting accuracy if you have old & tired eyes but the real ticket and a leap forward is to a red dot. I tried a red dot last year and I’m sold on them – the red dot (mine is a Leupold DeltaPoint) turned the clock back 40 years, as you don’t have to concern yourself with sight alignment making your only concerns for good accuracy to be timing, proper trigger control and consistent grip.
The only problem is the dot just doesn’t look like it belongs on a handgun – makes it look like you’re cheating or something and they are expensive.
I haven't hunted big game with them yet, as I missed out last year, but I've bagged several coyotes and a couple were making mach speed when I guessed right and touched her off - usually when their fast & low with good brush cover I just send a salute.
