Moss Patches Getting Foothold In Lawn

After about 19 years in our present house, just this year, both my wife and I have noticed patches of moss, appears quite prolific, appearing in our yard. In one spot it is about 2" thick and I would like to get rid of it.

Any ideas as to how we can rid our lawn of this "pest"? We have had a very wet spring.

ditto, lime the stuffing out of it.

My soil tested 6.2 and no moss, but at or about 5.9 moss will take over.

Post a pic or two of the moss.  We'll research, find out what it is, and then research some more for the "cure-all".  but lime sounds very good for the present.

General consensus not only amongst the members here but also a few personal contacts near where I live, all have suggested lime. I spread some this last weekend.....and time will tell. It could be a couple years before the soil is "sweetened". Time will tell.

If you use wood ash for your lime it changes PH faster that powder or pellet lime.As I MT my woodstove through the winter,I put it where it's needed.
