.357 Max. barrel (2nd LIFE)
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:20:47 PM »
A couple of you asked if I would post photo after I cleaned up that " Marryned Profino custom " .357 Max barrel.  I hope you don't think I messed it up to much!!  Here are some Photos

I did most of the work in about 2 hr. using my lathe. It was real hard to get a good photo as it is real shinny, I guess 2000 grit buffing is a little much.  The blueing is real solid and almost black.  It also shot well about 1" at 100yd. with .357 ammo.  I should be able to tune the load a little and shrink that group.

You took a perfect  " Marryned Profino custom " barrel and made it slick, shiny, blue and shoot good too? :o

My hat is off to you. I would have made a pretzel out of it around the previous owner's neck. ;)

Tom,

I can't believe anybody would modify a pristine Profino barrel, as they are classics! ;D  Nice work she looks fine.  It would be nice if Marry & Ed would see a picture of how a barrel should look, maybe they would learn something but I doubt it.

The pretzel arround the previous owner's neck would be nice but with the price of gas and how far it is from NY to OK. I guess I will just day dream about that.  I may have to paint it camo just to hunt with it.

Just give a Marryned Profino flat black (cheapest you can find) overspray paintjob to cut the glare.
It'll rub off easy after you are done hunting.

wow, very nice!
My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks

My thoughts exactly!

Profino barrels are some of the most sought after truck guns in existance, and are extremely popular in the south.  You see an old beat up pickup truck with coon dog kennels in it, and you'll most likely find a Profino barrel on the guns.

Nice work though even if you did ruin a classic! ::)

Im limited on any knowledge of foreign languages so way back did a net search and could not find it; got a nice ring though, especially now that it has been properly reworked by , obviously, a Profino Master.

Somehow I get the impression that we may have come up with a name for used Handi barrels that do not quite meet our expections, and  they will from this day forward be known as Profino barrels.

Seriously though, this would be a good thread to post in the "classifieds" as a sticky to show as a warning, what happens when you don't heed the many "red flags" and jump on a deal that isn't always what it's made out to be.

Luckily Tom bought the barrel was equiped to deal with it, and now he's got a barrel that he could get his money back on, and maybe make a little because it is one of a kind you know.   It's a pretty neat story with a happy ending!

I finally got time to get it set up , mounted a junk scope on it till I decide on what ,I am leaning toward one of the short light scope. With this scope it shot 1" real easy before I cleaned it up. Know I can see how much I screwed the accuracy.   It is just a little stock heavy with the wood and is perfect with a plastic stock.  I did not think I would like the real short barrel but it kinda grows on you and should handle nice.
