pachmayr presentation grips and the 45-70

i just bought a set , On the back is says   Not for use with 45-70 barrels .
Anybody know Why?

Since the presentation grips don't have finger groves they are harder to hang on to with that big kicking mother.  All three styles of Pachy grips have a cushion built in, but the set of Presentation grips that I have are far harder and cushion less than the Grippers that I have.  That would be my guess.

I called the Pachmeyr company when I wanted a set for my .375JDJ & 45-70. They said the smooth grip had a tendency to slip in your hand with the heavy recoil. They are harder also. I have two sets of the Gripper model and wouldn't take for them on my big handguns. Took the bite out of them.

I use the presentation on both my 375JDJ and my 45/70 with no problems. But I use a good pair of shooting gloves for practice or a good pair of leather army gloves with wool inserts and the trigger finger cut out of them for hunting purposes. Never lost it(gun) yet!!
