CHRISTmas came early
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:51:21 PM »
Had a buddy call me yesterday and said he had some lead for me , now I expected a few pounds of scrap = WRONG , he shows up with 2 - 50# bars and a 10# rod .

I asked him were he found these , he said that they were doing a demo on an old chem lab and these were the counter weights for the lab hood door , must have been one nasty door if it took 110 pounds to counter the weight  :P

I'm in the process of melting them into 2# ingots now , its very soft so some Tin is in order to make them good pistol pills , but I'm keeping some as is to shoot in my ML too .

I also found another person that has 2000# of 20 to 1 ingots for sale @ $.65 per # , so I'm good to cast for awhile now = Happy Happy Joy Joy !

:o  WOW!  At that price it ain't worth getting WW's from the scrap yard!  Wish I could find a deal like that...  :-\

Kind of a similar thing happened to me this weekend.
While I was dragging out a couple lawnchairs for my wife I almost tripped over a 5 gallon bucket of WW's.
I have no knowledge of how long or how they got there. :o
I should clean the garage out more often.... ::)

I asked, via e-mail throughout the office, requesting lead, wheel weights, and candle wax.  The wax has come back in Spades.  I have 3 copy paper boxes full of candles.  The lead, 100#'s, came back as old German tubing from a turn-of-the-century Player Piano being restored with rubber tubing.  You never know where stuff is going to be located.  I have picked up several 6-gallon buckets full of WW's for $20/bucket (~ 100#'s).  The amount of iron and zinc is growing in those WW buckets though.  So far, almost 20% has been scrapped as unusable.

Good idea Land_Owner.
I think I'll try that.
Not that I need any lead right now. ::)

Well I have about 1/2 of the bar lead done into ingots , only lost about 4# in scrap so far , and that will go back into the big cast iron cooker to be run one last time to reclaim any that can be salvaged .

As soon as I get the rest worked down its bullet time , got a mold coming for my new Taurus 40 that needs some trigger time -- I'M NOT going to pay factory prices for ammo .  ;D >:(
