A fundamental flaw in your original intent is that very few folk understand the purpose of debate. It is not to convince the opposing view to change their mind; and closed mindedness is an asset in debate. The so called rules of debate are for the benefit of the audience, not the participants, who are the ones seeking to evaluate positions. You cannot both be a participant in a debate, and a member of the audience ... which is what you have here on GB. And to debate you must respect your enemy regardless of how much you hate his viewpoint.
I would sincerely hope that all men hold fast to their convictions in the face of opposition, or else there really is no strength left in our nation. I do not highly value opinions that shift with the wind, fold in the face of question, or err on the side of tolerance, that capricious god of secularism. Rather you be hot or cold ...
