Model Six action bar failure
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:22:38 AM »
Noticed the forend was VERY wobbly the other day and thought it might be the o ring breaking. But a closer examination showed that the braze/weld/whatever on the left side action bar( where it joins the tube) snapped. Is this a common thing in the 760/6/7600 series? I got the  rifle in literally NIB condition in Feb. and have only fired 550 rounds and this happens. Very disappointing...Be just my luck that after the disassembly needed to repair it, she wont shhot as well.

I have been a user of the Remington 760 since 1957 and it has seen a lot of use.  No action bar problem.  Brother has a couple of R760 and has not had a problem.
A lot of law enforcement agencies including the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol trained and issued them in the days before black rifle.  If they had a problem they would not have been issue.

The Remington 870 shotgun has similar action bars and they have been a L.E. standard for many years.

Like any part there could be a manufacturing problem or there could be accumulated user abuse resulting in breakage. I observed an instructor shatter a stock.  The demonstrator released the action and with downward thrust of the forearm slammed the butt onto a concrete walk.  He shattered the butt stock, was place in counseling and told to lay off donuts. His action effectively cleared the intentional jam.

The accuracy problem maybe related to copper fouling do to the large number of rounds fired.  Place the butt of your unloaded rifle on  floor with the muzzle up, and tilt the rifle away from you.  Using a good light check the inside of the bore from an angle for copper fouling.
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

While you have the barrel off , give it a good cleaning from the breech !  Too bad it isn't a 760 , it would be a cheaper fix ! GunParts Corp has the part that you need . 550 Rounds since Feb. is a lot of shooting for a hunting Rifle , It's probably Copper fouled , and the Barrel may be loose !

That is a lot of shooting.  It's a really easy fix.

Maybe another example of newer gun quality. Quite a bit of shooting in a short duration for a  centerfire pump gun. Some people work the action harder than is necessary to cycle also.
