Got my 45/70 put together...
« on: May 18, 2011, 11:20:15 AM »
Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this forum since i got this... sometime before Remington took over. I've been putting parts and pieces on it since then and finally got it all put together.

Scope is a Redfield 3-7x33 with Warn QR rings - medium I think - and a Weaver 82 base

The stock set arrived the other day and required more work than I thought. First I had to ream out the bolt hole. Next the but plate required some attention.  One of the holes was off-center so, I plugged it and drilled it out again . From there it took some bending and some filing to get it right. By now the factory screws were pretty torn up so I replaced them with some polished brass.  Now I am working on the stock finish with a few drops of true-oil on some 1500 grit paper.

I think I somehow I ended up with the Classic forend and not the Carbine forend but that's ok,  I like it.

My name is Jeff and I'm a handiholic....

45-70 with trapdoor loads is a great caliber in a handi.

Pretty work Jeff. Can you see the iron sights well enough when the scope comes off?

Hey, thanks. The scope rail is grooved down the center so it does not obstruct the sights but it is a bit distracting.

Jeff,

Welcome to the Handiholic 12 step program. ;D   Very nice gun!  +1 on the trapdoor loads and the steel butt plate.  I learned that the hard way, same way I learn most stuff. :P

12 step program? Does that mean I have to buy at least 11 more?  ;D  :o

Trapdoor loads sound sound like the way to go but I did buy some Buffalo Bore 405s just to say I tried 'em 8)  ;D
