Sureshot: I just swapped my 40 something year old Commander slide onto my 20 year old Springfield 1911A1 Government Model without problem, so your swap idea should work fine. The dust cover is about 1/4" longer on the full size pistol but that did not interfere with the slide. Hope this helps.
