1911 SIGHTS
« on: May 19, 2011, 06:25:16 AM »
I have a GI style 1911 & want to change the sights to something I can see.  I think I would like fiber optics but I wonder how I would stake on a fiber optic front sight without breaking it.  Maybe a big white dot would work.

Can anyone suggest something that might work for me?   I think I can make a staking tool but I'm not sure how to support the sight during the staking process.

How do I remove (& reinstall) a front stake-on sight &  is there an adjustable rear sight that doesn't need any machining to install.  Thank you.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

I convert the slide to take dovetailed sights usually but admit that I have some still with the stake on sights. It's usually not possible to re-install a stake on front agter its been removed.. It can be done but USUALLY doesn't work well.. I sorts like the fiber optic sights but my 1911's are carried for serioyus social purpose so to speak and I much prefer tritium lighted sight dots.. My next pistol (still in a box just now) will use a system from Brownells made by XD sight systems...sp.? The rear is a broad shallow 'V' notch and the front a large tritium illuminated bead.. I've put them on other folks guns and was impressed by their useability and speed. They aren't the best target sights but for my purpose quite accurate enough. There are several rears available that replace the standard rear with no milling other than sometimes cleaning the dovetail a bit. Check Brownells catalog (or online) for particulars.. Bomar's are considered very good by most.. All will require a correct height front sight be installed.
