I have a new tent
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:37:53 PM »
Mama was out shopping the other day and called me to ask what a good brand name was for tents , I told her Holiday Inn , well as you can guess , That didn't go over very well , so now I'm the proud owner of a new Coleman - 2 room , 8 man tent .

My first question was why do we need an 8 man tent for 3 people ? Her responce was that she wanted more room than what a normal size tent offered -- DUH - if all else fails , I can park the pick-up in it !  ;D ;D ;D

stimpy

PS -- It did come with a pair of twin sized air mattress's .

from what ive seen, a 8 man tent is pretty comfortable for about 3 or 4 men.or 1 man and his wife and a cupple kids.

If you want comfort and room to move around, my rule of thumb is to double the tent capacity.  If 3 people will use it, get a 6 man tent minimum.  The tent capacity number is the number of people who can sleep in it if they're really, really friendly.

What the other guys said is true, tent makers lie about capacity. The trouble with a big tent is finding room to set it up. If you are just going to use it in regular campgrounds this is usually not a problem, or if you live in Kansas or Nebraska where everything is nice and flat, no problem. But if you take it to the mountains in lots of places it may be a real problem to find very many square feet of flat level ground all in one place.

To make matters worse, in lots of the nice places where you could maybe squeeze in a good size tent, the people who have gone before have thought that a nice fire ring with big rocks full of ash and half burned trash is just what needs to be right in the middle of any nice clear area.
