This morning as I came home all the drunks were staggering along the streets down town. Everything looked normal there. Guess the world did not end after all.
Although for a while last night was not sure. Had a brush fire in Fairbanks yesterday. In a residential area. Got a call on my cell from an old friend. She was in a panic. Car had exploded two doors down the street and flames was heading her way. A brush fire had reached the car. I was close but I was driving my little car, with the top down. I got there and went in grabbed her, her oxygen bottle, and her cat. Took them out and put them in the car, as embers fell on us. I got a hot ember down my collar, I did some yelling. I took off up the street, squirming. Hot ember fell in her hair and set it afire. I threw the ever present blanket over her head and kept driving. Three hours later the fire dept let us back in the neighbor hood. Her house was OK, some bushes burned in the front yard, but the house had received no damage. When I got home I put the top up on the car, and found a couple of burn places where embers had landed back there in the top storage area. Not concerned, have a new top on order anyway.
While her and I was watching the Fire Dept pass by we noticed the big scooper planes flying low overhead. I thought man this is a little overkill. Then we found out there was a big forest fire just outside of town as well. Summer is here, along with the ever present smoke.
Yall have a nice "World Did Not End Day".
