« on: May 22, 2011, 05:53:08 AM »
I would like to have my old 336 rebarreled . It is a 30-30 built in about 68 . I am looking for replacement barrel or a ballard cut barrel. I am also looking for a gunsmith that specializes it lever actions to do the work .

;) I had a Marlin rebarrelled to .25-35 Win. several years ago..but it was more than a bolt action..if you just want a .30--30, as someone said, call marlin for a replacement barrel....

Nooman's (sp) does custom lever gun work.  Marlin won't put a ballard rifled barrel on it if it didn't come with it originally.
Jes rebore will make it something bigger if you want to go that route.

I have a 336 that JES re-bored from 30-30 to 38-55 purchased from Wyatt Ocumpaugh (his brother, I think) after it had already been re-chambered and really like it.  So many 38-55's are over bore, but this one is a true .375.   ;D   Took a 250+ "hawg" first time out with it.  His web site is www.35caliber.com  Gerald

Marlin put a 24" octagon .30-30 barrel on a 336 for me, the "cowboy conversion".  Beautiful wood for the forearm, they put a foreend  cap with sling swivel stud on since I had put a forearm band with stud on the original barrel.  They sent me back all the old parts with the rifle.  Total charge was $320 IIRC.

Then I sold it (kick myself in the butt over and over again).
