Kimber adjustable rear sights?
« on: May 24, 2011, 02:28:05 AM »
OK - proud new owner of a Kimber Custom II with fixed sights from the factory.  Not completely committed to changing them yet, but wanted some feedback on who makes a good fiber optic rear adjustable sight for these.  I have read enough to know that I will be sending the slide off to have this done by a 'smith, but not sure who makes a good sight.  I have a set of Williams Firesights on my Buckmark, and I really like them.  They don't list an adjustable rear sight at all on their website.  Novak has adjustable rears in black, white dot or nite sights, but no fiber optic.  Any opinions out there?  I want the flexibility of an adjustable sight for shooting different loads.

Give Kimber a call or go to their website. I broke the rear sight on my Kimber Custom Target doing clearance drills in a handgun class. I believe the Kimber dovetail is a proprietary one. I ordered a replacement from Kimber. The experience made my think twice about adjustable sights on a working pistol.

Don't quote me, but I think that Kimber uses Meprolight sights. I have a Kimber Target Eclipse II, and thats what it has. The box came with Meprolight catalog, so they may have teamed up. Good luck. Kimber is making great 1911s!

Guy has good prices for as popular as his sights are.  I've got the plain black target version on my .45 Match pistol.  ;)

I have a target model that had the black adj sight...couldn't see due to age...swapped out for the Kensight with night sights...adjustable...glad I did...easy to see...well made. It was designed for the Kimber cut...not sure if Kimber cut on fixed sight is same as Kimber cut on adj. sights.... They aren't fiber optic but glow...easy to see in daylight...nice sight...little pricey. Scott

This may be considered as a rant--It is just my thoughts and just the way I do things---I choose to make my own mistakes--you do it your way.
I really don't care for fiberoptics on self defense weapons. Course I don't shoot bullseye.
I like good, solid fixed front and rear sights.
My choice is/are Heinie and in particular, Slant-Pros.

I like fiber optics! Just put a set of Truglo TFO sights on one of my Glocks.  The adjustable sights on my Kimber Target required a "BoMar Type" sight cut. When I broke mine, I had to order one from the factory to fit the mill slots. I seem to remember the dovetail was a little different from the Bomar cut, but looked about the same. I don't know of anyone making adjustable FO sights, but I would be happy with just a FO front sight and a plain black rear. Matter of fact I really like the fixed sights that come on Kimber pistols a lot. All my current 1911s have fixed sights, I haven't found them to be a handicap.
Good luck in your search!
