judge video
« on: May 24, 2011, 11:32:09 AM »
I had recently put a 3inch chambered judge on layaway something I told everyone I'd never do just due to my constant bad luck with taurus's. The revolver had good lock up. Anyways long story short I did it. I had a theory about loads and  I found this video done by Hickock45 on youtube that proved it quite clearly course it is torwards the end of the video (30min or so in) The federal buckshot handgun ammo accually engages it to the rifling hence the 5inch groups at 20 yards or so that I had been reading about and this video proves it does work. It also proves that the majority of the 410 loads are worthless for anything other then hitting someone coming in a passenger window.  I pretty much got this rig to be a truck gun hence I go up north quite a bit and rabbits are freaquently outside my vehicle well within range of the normal wide spreading loads of the judge. I hope you like the video and it is quite informative of what bthe judge can and can not do.

Ive been wanting one since they came out and tonite I picked up one . Thx for the vid now I know what Im up against. I picked mine up for those alnite fishing trips and sometimes it gets a little too dark to line up your sites so I thought the Judge would do the job with the correct shell and from the vid I think it will. hx for the vid again!

I finally got the judge paid off and it's in my possesion. All I could find was the federal handgun 2.5 inch 000. I went to the range to see what it's patter was at 25 yards. I came away accually impressed. out of  5 shots the smallest pattern was 7.5 inhes and the largest was 11.5. At 5 yards I shot it along with soem 45 acp 200gr plus P loads and both penetrated the same distance of 2.5 inches. (it was a dry book was not soaked)  I also shot my 10mm (155@1430fps chrono'd) and it got another 2 inches of penetration. So yeah I think the federal handgun loads are well up to the task of defense.

I have had a 3" barrel Judge for several years. Bought it to shoot snakes and the AA 2 1/2" number
8's or 9's work great. With a 255 grain swc load it shoots 2" to 3" at 25 yards offhand. When I tried
the 45 acp in it a while back it shot hardball and some 230 grain jhp as well but at a shorter distance. To be fair I did not expect it to do much with the long cylinder. I have tried the 255 swc that were loaded for my 45 acp Trackers and at 25 yards get 2 1/2 to 3" offhand groups out of the short acp cases. So now I drop a moon clip of 45's in my shirt pocket when I have the Judge. Thanks to y'all I need to try the buckshot loads too now.

The Judge is the latest "fad" gun thanks to marketing by Taurus. Why oh why would you want a 6 shot close range revolver when you could have a similar size pistol in 9mm or .40 cal. with a 10 plus mag. capacity and much, much faster reloading capability. The best snake killer anyway is a 6 or 7 foot stout staff.
