saw this and thought it should get posted, I always shoot the 10 o clock position and now I know why.

Remember that the target map is based on Single handed shooting and the target is for the right hand. If you are a south paw and it is the mirror immage.
Also remember to capture your non shooting hand. Minor movements with your nonshooting hand result in movements on the target.
Tuck it in a pocket or your belt.

Also, If you consistently shoot someplace other than the bull, how about moving your sights.

Make sure it is the sights and not your style of shooting.
With the sights centered you should be around the bull not in the 10 o clock position and the sights are to move you around the bull to center it based on ammo or distance.

remember a chart like that that my dad used when i was just learning shoot, found one in the loading bench that says compliments of LEE, the only difference is on the left and right sides it has notes for left or right handed shooters.

Adjusting the sites to your pull off isn't improveing your shooting mechanics. You can pull of consistently and adjust it with the sites, you still arn't useing proper technique. The chart is designed to correct technique. ear

If I'm CONSISTENTLY hitting the same spot, there is NOTHING wrong with my technique. Seriously, if someone is shooting a two inch group at 25 yards, why would you tell them to change their technique, rather than adjust their sights?

with my rear sight all the way down on every handgun I own, I still shoot high. could getting old and losing muscle mass cause this? the chart said breaking wrist up, so how do I fix it?

I'm with you on this one buddy. If you are consistently shooting tight groups on the same spot on the target, then who cares about technique? The purpose of technique is to shoot tight groups, not the other way around.

Louis Armstrong use to play his trumpet with the mouthpiece ceentered slightly to one side of his mouth, instead of centered in the middle of his lips. Lousy technique.

He was the greatest trumpet player of the jazz age.

Yes, you can certainly shoot and hit where you aim, but anyone with proper technique with your handgun, would hit in a group just the opposite on the chart as to where you had been hitting. ear

Well if you are squeezing your whole hand hitting the target at 9 O clock and you adjust your sights to hit bull at 25 yards You are going to be off at 50 yards, if you change your grip you will be on at 25, 50, and out or in.

I would clearly disagree with that. If the shot is hitting to point of aim at 25 yards, it will be hitting to point of aim (disregarding bullet trajectory) at 50 yards as well. It's basically a straight line from the bore to where the bullet hits, regardless of distance.

I did that with my latest, a Taurus ul 38 spcl 2 in bbl. All I had to do was lower my grip and I now shoot right on with it. POWDERMAN.

I agree with your point but everything I have seen on the range tells me you will be off. Better to center your sights and get good technique and then fine adjust your sights. When you pick up a fixed sight gun you will be on and not have to do complicated kentucky windage in your head to toss a shot, thinking about how you changed your sights to offset your hold. I think changing your sights before you group up in the center of the target is like shooting a rifle seeing where the round hits and adjusting aim to hit the bull rather than finding a group.

Mcwoodduck, you're making an assumption that the sights are properly aligned before adjustment. If the sights are off, how are you going to "group up in the center of the target"?

PM, thanks for answering. I got out my 22A and I do indeed have my hand jammed up against the frame so I'll try a new grip. the revolvers may be more trouble but I'll work on'em.

I said center the sights. And yes some are just off. Some are made for different points of impact. Like Civil war guns shoot low.

IF the gun will group, just shoot until you can hit where you aim. you will figure it out as you go. ear
