No4 Mk2 303 brit feeding problems.

I loaded up a bunch of 180gr round nose bullets for my 303. Went to range today and they wont feed.  I now see the two fingers at front of clip are designed for pointy bullets.  I suppose could bend some to feed rn, but then pointy probably wouldnt work right.  Note to self, feed test prior to loading 150+ .  Has any one else addressed this problem and have any good suggestion. Thought maybe buy second mag and modify that one??. I have a lot of the RN bullets and would like to use if I can.

Just get a couple of new magazines.  You didn't say how the loads hang up but a properly working magazine should not have any feeding problems.  None of my SMLEs have ever had any feeding problems, mil-spec ammo, spire point hunting loads or Hornady round nose soft points.  And btw, a roound nose bullet loaded to the same length as a mil-spec 174 gn spire point bullet may well be too long to cycle and might hang up. 

I would suggest first trying to seat the bullet a bit deeper to see if that helps cycling.  If not, then get a couple of new magazines.  HTH.

I agree with Mikey, the magazine is the most likely culprit.  Mine have always fed everything I've put in them and my favorite hunting round is the Rem 180gr RNCL.

I have had to "tweak" the feed lips on a couple of magazines over the years.  Not surprising considering their age and what some of the rifles have been through.

thanks for the info guys. I will look at shortening a few. The magazines have not been through anything as this was a new in cosmoline never issued rifle. Maybe I am wrong about the noses suppose to be under the front fingers in the clip.  I will have to look more closely at that. Any more info will be greatly appreciated.

Ok Just in case any one else might want to know. I found that for the round nose ammo to feed well in this enfield they need to be loaded 2.90 or less coal. Now feed as smooth as anything else or better with coal of 2.89. Thanks for all the help guys. I think that memorial day is a great time to get out and shoot the old military stuff.

This might sound dumb . But when loading the Mag -are you putting the rim of the case in front of the last one loaded in the Mag? This has solved a few  feeding problems . ;)

Yes I am carefull to stack the rims forward on this ole girl. The feeding problems went away when I shortened the round nose rounds a little.
Always good to keep the rims in mind while loading.
