I finally got to shoot a real luger at my gun club the other day, never even seen one fire before, let alone shoot one, as they are now expensive collector guns.  As the originals are a rich man's gun, I have been considering the Air soft version by WE, also the Mauser broom handle pistol, I used to own a real Mauser years ago.

How well do these upper level metal guns hold up?  Do you need to lube them, and are the barrels rifled?  Are they loud with the gas discharge, how do you get rid of the stupid orange tip on many of these air soft guns?

My best related experience was with CO-2 pellet pistols that I once owned years ago.  The first was a pot metal Crossman copy of the Colt Python, fun shooter but the canister seal had a short life, and the gun would flop open sometimes as it was a top break action to load it.  The other was an expensive Walter version of the Walter P-88 semi-auto pistol.  This was a gun I shot alot, solidly made and accurate.  The problem was the hammer must have been made of a soft metal as you could see where the firing pin actuator was punching an ever growing dent into it.  Sold it, I don't see the P-88 or the Crossman Python around anymore, so they were junky.

We had some teenage boys who were into air soft pistil combat here in my neighborhood a year ago, they were having alot of fun shooting at each other, but left all those plastic balls lying around.  I am too old for cops and robbers, but would like something to shoot in my living room, or even at the gun range.

Any suggestions?

From what I have seen so far, the WE products are not good. The C-96 tends to go full auto with wear and I am nervous about how well the hammer to slide impacting will go as it is not steel.

Might look into one of the sub machine guns down the road.  It appears that this hobby mostly appeals to the age 10-14 crowd, hence no response to my inquiry.  Will stick to the adult guns.
