Hello! 22LR Questions
« on: December 30, 2003, 07:04:38 PM »
Hi, friends.  New to this forum.
I now have my late father's T-C, chambered for .357 mag.  It's an older blued one, S/N 2008XX.
It's in LNIB condition!
I am interested in purchasing a new 22LR match barrel for it, and I see where the new ones are 12" instead of 10".
Does anyone have an opinion on which would be better, assuming a 10" match bull barrel in 22LR can be found?  Seems to me that the extra 2" wouldn't buy you much accuracy-wise, and makes the handgun a bit less handy, size-wise?
Why did T-C start going with 12" barrels?
Also, what would be an excellent scope and mount package for this setup?
Thanks!

:D  Howdy Jim, and welcome to GBO.  :D

You'll find a real fine group here on the TCH Forum, and a bunch of gents with many, many years of experience with Contenders and Encores to draw information from.

Your frame is an early easy open version, made about 1988-89, and is the best frame TC made in the original Contender line.   It should give you very good service and pleasure.

A 12" is actually a nice compromise between a 10" and 14" barrel.   They balance well for offhand shooting and I think you'd find are just as easy to carry as a 10" would be.   Almost everyone who gets a Contender ends up with a 22LR barrel early on, so there are a lot of them out there and they crop up for sale all of the time.   You'd be able to find a 10" fairly easy if that's the way you really want to go.   Do stay with the match chamber though if you can - they do have a bit of an advantage over the standard 22LR.

In my opinion the best all around scope choice would be a Burris 2-7X (#200293) in Burris mounts and rings.   Great scope for any handgun, but it just makes a real nice matchup to a short rimfire.

Might be a bit biased in my opinions though - been shooting Contenders for 34 years and my 22LR match is a 12" custom Bullberry wearing the Burris 2-7.   Great combination all the way around.

Good luck and welcome to the world of TC's.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Welcome to the forum! You may want to check the link below as Ed seems to come highly recommended. I've heard he is quite the busy fellow and doesn't get to update his website often, so a call or email may be best when looking for something. Just one option in looking for a barrel.

Welcome, a 22 LR is a fine choice in barrels. I'd look around for the 10'' also. Not sure why T/C stopped making them. The scope I have is a Bausch & Lomb Elite 3000 2 x 28, with SSK(jdj) base & rings.  Max Hunter  :-)

As far as scopes go's I think that the bushnell 2x6 handgun trophy is
the way to go if you don't want to break the bank. It is 2" shorter than
the burris 2x7 and has better eye relief IMO. It is also lighter and can
be had for about $150. I now have five of them and am very happy.
  I have them on two 22 auto's also on a 223, 243 and a 308 Encore.
Best scope for the money IMO. No problems with any of them. click
adjustmemt is very positive as is POI thru out the power ranges. Just
my opinion.
