350 rem mag with 250's
« on: May 31, 2011, 05:37:05 PM »
Anyone curently loading 350 rem mag have you tried 250gr in it yet if so what brand name. I'm looking at purchasing some 250's for my model 7 just wondering what to go with magazine area doesn't leave much room. I'm working up longer range loads and was wondering if they would range out better. I've tried 180's and 200's with no sucess now I'm woking with 225's siera shows good promise. 200yrds is getting 3" groups with IMR 4064. Getting ready to jump back to 300 yrds. and see what happens.

Not much help here from me. When I had a 350 Rem Mag( Rem 700 Classic)  I used 250 gr Hdy RN's and 220 gr Speers.  Both grouped very well with IMR 3031.

I considered 200 yards as a maximum distance. Primarily used the 350 in British Columbia for moose and the range is usually less then 100 yards.
If I would need a 300 yard cartridge I would be looking at something other then the 350 Rem Mag. Long BT bullets really intrude into the powder space.

I had a XP-100 in 350 RM, that I loaded 250's for.  Didn't have a magazine issue but I did notice that after a day of black bear hunting that I had to pull my bolt out in order to get a loaded round out of the gun!  Never expeienced that at the range because I never ejected a loaded round.
Back then I used Rem PSP bullets (discontinued) but now I use Barnes (discontinued), Nosler Part and Hornady RN in my 358 Norma.   I picked up 300 Norma 250 and 280gr bullets at an estate sale a few years back.  I look forward to using the 280 gr bullets in a 358 WSM that I just had built.

In a model 7, I would stick with the RN - they are a little shorter.

reloader17 and the 225 sierras works well. The short mag length of the model 7 is a problem though.
