Thunderbolt ammo
« on: June 01, 2011, 06:12:15 PM »
I got a little bit of a suprize with 22 ammo
I think it was common knowledge a few years ago that Remington had some rimfire ammo that the primers had quite a few problems. So I kinda wrote off Remington Thunderbolt being the cheapest of the cheap.
Last year I bought a Ruger Charger and I would be called a liar if I told how accurate it was with Thunderbolt I tried some other ammo and it was no where near as accurate.

Last week I bought a GSG 1911 type 22 and with the white lithium grease in the gun (no cleaning)and it shot 100 rounds without a hitch. Today I took the gun out (after a cleaning) and started with Winchester ammo and it would not cycle 1 to 2 rounds a clip.
I had a box of Thunderbolt and no problem I had a box of Remington SUBSONIC and it shot 50 rounds without a jam

Go figure!

I hope remington fixed them.  as a kid, remington ammo was all my dad bought for us boys.
I'd like to be able too use it for old-time sake.

Had a Browning Buck Mark that shot Thunderbolts extremely well, accurate and reliable. It was the craziest thing because none of my other 22s shot it so good and definitely not reliable. This was two years ago when ammo was hard to come by. Sure had me scratching my head. Brother in law has it now and I haven't purchased Thunderbolts since.  Hope they are getting better because they seem to always be available around here.

Remington thunderbolts are all i have ever shot through my 22's since i was a kid.  Lots of people say bad things about them but i have never had a primer problem.  They seem fairly accurate in all of my rifles and ive never noticed any wax buildup like some suggest will happen.  im glad that someone else has shared my good experiences with it.  they even make for good hunting ammo.  I shoot squirrel, rabbit and woodchucks with thunderbolts and have great success.

I have shot them and do not remember ignition problems but accuracy was not so great. I swore off them as the truncated cone bullet shape isn't best for feeding.

When I was a kid Wildcats and Champions where the cheap ammo. The good stuff was Remington Goldens! Later CCI bullets became the go to bullet for us.

I have a couple bolt guns that shoot Remington extramLy well!
I have fired cases of rem STD vel for Bullseye compatition until serious misfire problems arrows in the mid 90's. They are still quite accurate. But alibis are a PIA so I shoot CCI STD and RWS rifle now.
