Another barrel fitting question...
« on: June 05, 2011, 12:19:57 PM »
Have a very thin gap between barrel and breech.  Honestly can't tell if it's smaller at the bottom or not.  Don't want to hone the lug and make it shorter if it needs a shim instead.

Wondering if there are other ways of determining which fitting option is required?

It's ejector barrel.    Also wondering if ejector pressure could hold the barrel so tight I can't wiggle it to verify it might need a shim?

O/C question I know, but we could all use a little help.  Thanks.

Check the gap with a feeler gauge.  You will be able to tell right away if it is larger at the top.

Read the barrel fitting page again, you must have missed a lot of info includng the part about removing the ejector.  ;)

Removal of the ejector is necessary to do the filing, an extractor can remain in place, but you'll probably want to remove the extractor as well to clean up after filing.

You're right.  Didn't see that part.  Removed the ejector.  It needs a shim.  Can I expect the shim to be the same thickness as the gap between the barrel and breech?
