44 Mag and .429 bullets

Trying to work up a hunting load with the nosler 200 JHP's.  I've worked up a light Unique load that is driving tacks (my son will shoot this) But when I load up with h110 or 2400 it really starts spraying them.  I'm talking 2-3" at 25 yards,  anybody have any experience with this bullet or the .429 diam?  Do I need to go to .430?  These same hot loads are yielding excellent groups out of my buddies 77/44.

By the way, I don't believe this is one of the older overbored barrels,  bought it new last fall.  Looking for any experiences with this bullet, weight, diam., etc.,  so I know if I need to go a different direction with my projectile of choice.

Try loading some 240gr. Hornady XTP's with 110. I've had great luck with them in my CVA Scout and my nephew's Handi. His is one of the older ejector barrels and it shoots almost as well as my Scout.

I also have had better luck with the XTP in full power loads.

RangerJ did you go with the 240's.  I'm going to the shop today, so I'll pick up some xtp's.  I'd like to find a 200 grain load,  but may have to bump up to 240.

I'v had good luck with the speer 240 gold dot hollow point [.429] but it shot the 240 xtp [.430] the best.

My older, overbored, .44 (now .445) shot the 240 gr. XTPs well over a hot load of H110.  It also shoots 225 gr. Hornady LEs fairly well.  It shoots best with a 433 dia., 240 gr. GCs from Montana bullet Works over a stout load.  I'm still experimenting with powders.  I think a longer, heavier bullet would stabilize better than a 200 grainer.

.429 won't drop down the bore so maybe the diam. isn't the issue.  Maybe a longer bullet will stabilize better?? Or maybe try .430 xtp in 200 and 240 and see what happens.  This will be a dedicated hunting round and I suppose I'm trying to shorten the learning curve in handloading for this rifle.  Thanks for the replies so far.

Actually 180 and 200 gr shoot best although 240s are not bad.

Not in my guns.
240's stack on top of each other while the 200's shoot a 2" group.

Thanks guys,  bought some XTP 200's and 240's and gonna give them both a try. Gonna try 27.5 and 28 gr. H110 for the 200's and 23.5 and 24 gr H110 in the 240's and see what happens.  I like the idea of the 200 gr. loads simply because of how flat they shoot,  nothing against the 240's though.  I've killed alot of deer with the 240's out of my muzzleloader.

Mine shoot the 180 xtp the best but I perfer the heaver 240 and the 300 xtp's for hunting in the swamps, never know when old porky will pop out, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Slug your barrel, then you will know exactly what bullet your gun wants. simple as that. hope this helps.
