The long can works pretty good for me at certain times. My favorite, and most useful, is my snort call. I keep it around my neck any time I am in the woods. It has nothing to do with that grunt-snort-weeze crap that the boys on TV have pushed the last couple of years. It is only used to mimic the sound they make when one "blows" at you. I have called many deer back in with it after jumping them up and spooking them while still hunting.

My son and I have good success with grunt calls and a bleat can. Lately my son also uses a snort wheeze and it's proven very successful. A little trick we've learned is that when you hear a deer cough at you, cough back! You'd be surprised how many times they'll come to the sound to investigate.

:)  Howdy! I've had luck with the can. Not much luck with other deer calls. I can usually get a deer to walk toward my stand shortly after the can call. However, the deer manage to stay out of sight while investigating the sound. The can call will bring in predators sometimes. I was in a tree stand hunting deer and I inverted the can to produce the doe in heat sound, shortly afterwards a Bobcat with 2 kittens appeared looking for the source of the sound. Best of luck!  Always, Gene
