Does anyone have any experience using the Leupold boresighter? I was thinking about buying one but was wondering how they compare to the traditional spud-in-the-barrel boresighters. Thanks!

This has been a field of interest of mine for some time. The Leupold boresighter is not bad for the money, however it is limited to scopes for the most part - the Sweany spud type can be used for scopes, open sights, rifle, pistol and shotguns.

I think some of the new laser bore sighter's are better suited for handguns other low power rifle scopes.

When I use my "old style " Bushnell I have a lot of trouble sighting my 2X handgun scopes and they should work just as well on open sights as scopes

I have the Leupold bore sighter and use it a lot. It works great. I also have a laser bore sighter I do not use it much, sence I got the Leupold.

I use a Leupold bore sighter and it works well for pistol and rifle scopes and iron sights. The only "if" is that the crown on the barrel has to be square. It also needs more to bite on than shotgun muzzles, but anything else it works fine. When I finst got it I moved it up and down on the crown to see if it changed the sight picture, and amazingly enough it always is the same. And I have never had a sope more than about 1.5 inches off center at 50 yards with the first shot. One scope I had to shim, and had I not used the sighter I would have spent a box of shells just finding out where the gun shot. For $40.00 it is a bargain, IMHO.

Thanks guys for the info on the Leupold boresighter. My big concern was placement of the boresighter on the barrel and if the sight picture would change depending on where the boresighter was attached. Thanks Keith for answering that question.

I have this bore sighter and it is ok but I don't think I ever was a inch and
a half of center with it . I have done 4 or 5 hand guns with it and it is always on the paper but not that close to center. Now this might not be
the bore sighter fault it depends on how your gun is drilled and tapped and
also on the scope. On my Encore 308 barrel it is way off if you go by the
bore sighter but it is actually dead on at 100 yds. You have a little chart
that you can plot the setting of each gun after it is sighted in. It is a good
deal and very simple to use but if you slide it around enough on the
end of your barrel it will leave a mark on a blued gun. I think you could
put a pcs of paper between the sighter and the gun barrel to prevent this.
