Contender Auto ejectors
« on: December 31, 2003, 01:35:26 PM »
Greetings,
I was wondering about the auto ejectors that Thompson installed on some of their barrels and custom shop barrels. How do they work? Does your frame need modification? Do they work with old style frames? If anyone had info, please let me know. Email is graycg@aol.com

thanks and regards,
Graycg

The barrels I had with this feature worked great, but made it a pain to gather the brass (for reloading).   Seems like all I had was barrels for straight walled brass though.   Not sure if even the custom shop does them anymore - but I don't think they do.   Also don't think the frame needs to be modified - never had any of mine done.   All of mine went away when all the factory barrels did.   Even in all the thousands of barrels I see available each year, I see very few offered with this feature, but they have to be out there.   If you really want one, I think I know who to contact to have your barrel modified (not sure if he does them - but he could and probably has a stock of the parts).   Drop me a line if so.   Pretty wishy-washy answers huh?   Oh well, I tried.

the auto eject was an option for t/c custom shop and if you send them in your barrel they would retrofit one for you.
They could have been adjusted to toss out the case or just part way.
When T/C had that big fire about 10 years ago the part that burned up that had the equipment to do this conversion in it. "as this was not a very popular option" T/C did not repair the equipment. and will not be offering it any more. I know you could order if for any barrel but the rim fire ( the only ones that i would really want) I have yet to see any offered up for sale/ trade I can see this being a very useful option on a hunting barrel ( when i am hunting i don't normally worry about the brass) or the non-reloadable rim fires.  If anyone that can make this  please let us all know

If I remember correctly, this modification was brought about by folks wanting to use a Contender in the long range portion of the Master's Tournament.  It made the Contender a bit more competitive with the XP type pistols.

I had one in a 45/70 14" barrel. I hated it. Always chasing brass around.  KN

I am just about certain that these were offered before the fire in factory TC Contender "Hunter" barrel packages for rimmed cartridges (I don't think this will work for non-rimmed) - 30-30, 357 max?, 375 Win, 45-70.

I think this would be great for a hunting gun, and could help in the event a quick follow up shot is necessary.  For that reason I bought one just the other day (NIB) from M&M Trading Post - factory blued Hunter barrel in 375 Win.  I checked with Ed (Ed's Contenders) a while back and he did not have any - so I kept looking until I found one, they are a bit hard to find.  However, I imagine that there are some people selling them on Ebay that do not realize the barrel has that "option" and just end up selling them as standard factory Hunter barrels.
